cnn served up some tsunami
soup at dawn today, seasalt broth
dipped in mortar, chunks of casualties
smashing plasma in h-d, while we perch
with oatmeal and oj

we lap it up with shallow breath,
comfort food for us on other side
of the spoon, our bleached eyes burn
for a moment, watering slightly in
temporary clarity

and we dip our daily bread in communion
