Lily Field
Bill Price
I came upon a lily field,
While on a path both old and worn.
The barren dirt beneath my feet
Showed the travelers it had borne.
I stood upon the flattened earth
And felt the dead and beaten grass
And gazed toward the lily field -
An obvious contrast.
I stood awhile and looked at both,
My thoughts raced ´tween the new and old.
I thought of death; I thought of life
In fields of purple, white, and gold.
I´ve often seen life´s hurt and pain,
But at that time my heart was healed.
My eyes beheld the meaning there
While looking at the lily field.
