Finger Paints

Shawn Major

During the artistic process
Paper, table, shirt, and dog
All received their fair share
Of your budding talents
In the form of liberally applied,
Washable, primary colors.

Green-cheeked and repentant,
You take a dollop of purple
And smear it down your arm.
A move made to stave off
My blue-nosed justice
Hungrily eyeing your shirt.

Your handprint, with some help,
Can be made to look like a turkey.
Though why the teacher thinks
You’d want to do that instead
Of dumping paint in Suzie’s hair
Is completely beyond you.
