Leaving The Shore
Gary F. Iorio
Leave drowning to those who know how to swim.
They learn the
dog paddle, back stroke, crawl and
breast.
The
first
steps
to asphyxia, hypoxia, myocardial infarction
and the bottom of the Lake.
Leave the human heart to me.
I learn to
find it pounding, tearing and screaming.
I dive in and see an 18-year-old girl in the bottom of a frail old woman,
screaming, tearing and pounding! Beneath her
breast
a
long-dead
child
remembered now by few, trusting me
to bring them all Home.
