Spring Mare
Sue Russell
green breath, heavy
enough to lay
a tender nudge
against my hand
plush lips flump
then wrinkle back
ivory grind
then drip
verdant ooze
other cheeks round
to concave curve
luxurious tail
obscures winking
fecund folds
secretions comingle
warmth welcomes
simple grassy pleasures
beneath the hoof
