I took a Creative Writing course when I was in high school. I do not recall many of the classes I took, but that class has always stood out to me. I enjoyed reading all the different types of literature and poetry. Then we were asked to write; this was a challenge, but I enjoyed attempting to create great writings as those I had read. It must have planted a seed, as here I am as an adult still loving to write and read such great creative works.

As I read the entries submitted for Mused, it took me back to those days in Creative Writing class. The submissions in this season’s issue are so creative, inspiring and also educational. They are beautifully written and make me want to go and write better, and even attempt to write styles I am not yet comfortable with. With Spring in the air and soon to have flowers blooming, reading these submissions have given me the desire to blossom more into a more creative writer; maybe try my hand at poetry which would be a new outlet of writing for me.

A Small Memory of You hit home as it brought memories to me of a friend who recently succumbed to cancer. As I sit at home cold from the winter the poem With the Spring gives me hope of warmer days. The fiction Home touched my heart deeply. It left me wanting to know more about this couple and their love. I am sure each of you will read these writings and each one will have its own special message to you. The nonfiction that brought tears to my eye and touched me the most was Still Life; I have had experience with Alzheimer’s and dementia in my own family. This story had such a ring of familiarity and I could relate to this writer’s pain, but also her love for her father.

I challenge you to read these submissions and see if you can relate to the story. What feelings does it emote? Does it inspire you to also go and write, paint or read? I truly enjoyed this spring edition of Mused and look forward to seeing what future editions may bring.
