A Triolet of Daffodils
Craig W. Steele
…all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils…
William Wordsworth, "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud," 1804
With slender stems uplifting golden horns,
the daffodils announce that spring’s arrived,
as winter’s frozen tresses have been shorn
by slender stems uplifting golden horns.
The meadowlands lie silent, weatherworn,
but underground, the bulbs have thrived, revived
their slender stems uplifting golden horns,
as daffodils announce: “Now spring’s arrived!”
