Waning Memories
Marylou Mansfield
what if somebody discovers
i don’t remember
memories elude
mind sketches
carelessly
hands grip the steering wheel
tremble
want only turn
taking the wrong road
again
locked doors
panic inner self
where
is the key
where
memories evade access
simple maneuvers
obscured by shadows
fill
frightened hours
i did not ask for this
expectations
did not include
veils
of creeping darkness
slowly imprisoned
by my own life
only i can set myself free
if i could find
the key
