Stopping My Alarm on a Monday Morning
Carole Davis
What day this is, I think I know.
I’d really rather sleep in though;
Than put on my career veneer
And go to work to make some dough.
My loud alarm is ringing clear.
It’s like the rooster Chanticleer!
“Stop ringing now for I’m awake.”
I’m losing hearing in one ear.
I give the clock a little shake
In hopes that there is some mistake.
Daybreak is cause for me to weep.
Scant sleep has made my stomach ache.
The bed was comfy, slumber deep,
But I have work that will not keep.
I wish I could go back to sleep.
I wish I could go back to sleep.
