All That Glitters
Kathleen Serocki
in Nice an entirely different sun
more photons perhaps
more lumens per ray
an ethereal lighting
blazes through wide boulevards
glosses leaf tips
liquidy narcissus yellow
the giant heliotrope slowly turns its head
flashy waxed yellow peppers orange
carrot candelabras light
up the vegetable stalled sidewalks
splayed octopi tinsel
draped quicksilvery fish shimmer
fanned out before the sea
blue sheened
the seaport lizard basks
primps in fancy perfumes sardine
lavender thyme saffron salt air
a gold leaf baguette breezes by
in Nice morning sun bursts
through wooden shuttered eyes of the city
gilded clocks shine more gold
youth is more young
age more unforgivably old
late afternoon sultry peach mimosa faces
cast their own musty light
by night Nice languishes in seed pearls
stranded moon fleck over the bay
