Forget Your Hubris

Linda M. Crate

rival of moon and sun
you turn spokes
riding into the sky with only
one purpose:
destroy it,
and i don´t know what you hope to prove
maybe your strength or your valor
to prove you´re braver than
most men;
but to me it just shows you´re as foolish
as the man who stole fire from
the gods
whose existence is to have his innards
eaten by vultures for eternity—
proud, haughty, insincere
you speak like a god;
but you are a mere man forget this foolishness
we cannot create universes in the galaxy
our universes exist in our hearts
we burn reality through
them,
but we cannot compete with heaven
whose perfect prose has already been constructed
years before we were were even
thoughts.
