Grabbing for Sanity
JeanMarie Olivieri
There are days when the world spins extra fast
or maybe it’s me, running on a wheel
like a gerbil in his cage.
Some days I’m frantic
grabbing for sanity
like a hungry man grabs for the last slice of bread.
Some days I’m calm and casual
grabbing for sanity
like a mom grabs the salt and pepper on the way to the dinner table.
Some days I’m desperate
grabbing for sanity
like a student catching the pages of a term paper floating on the wind.
But most days, I’m looking for salvation
grabbing for sanity
like the brass ring at the carousel.
