Waiting for Sleep

Lazy indolent drops
of water fall
in my sink
such a small noise
keeps me awake
my mind won’t click off
I search books
and I find no faces
the glum world outside
is raining on the trees
and they don’t seem alive
no sound but the drip, drop
then voices
outside in the rain wet street
wake me up
and I realize I have been sleeping.
