Darrell Petska
Birds on power lines chitteringat the supple trees´ tango
with that scalawag, wind
18-wheelers on the freeway
making light of their burdens,
playing tag from town to town
where rows of houses wink,
gleefully sharing secrets
teeming within their walls—
yet past regimented desks
in bumper-to-bumper offices
the gloomed masses shuffle,
eyes to their toes,
worry clogging their arteries,
lungs gasping in fear.
Sun, moon and stars
do acrobatics to no avail:
so joyless these people
amidst this show of merriment,
their eyes refuse to see
the whole world´s here for them.
